The Posies Collection

In Victorian times posies were said to be little bunches of flowers given as gifts to convey particular sentiments and messages; indeed flowers speak their own language. In spring, I recall my Dad appearing home with bunches of lilacs; the sweet smell wafted through the house for days. In August it was gladiolas; not nearly as fragrant but their stately stems boasted beautiful blooms. This was a language of love— both from my Dad and from the flowers themselves. As a young girl, the garden captivated me— there was joy to be found in every nook and cranny; gifts from the Earth, warmed by the sun and cultivated by the rain. Vibrant hues: shocking pink, fire-engine red and flame orange. Foliage in every shade of green and soft pastel tones: lavender, peach and yellow.
